Famed Videogame Music Composer Geoff Follin Passes Away At Age 54

Posted by Merit Celaire on Saturday, June 1, 2024 - 01:00 PM

Good afternoon, friends; unfortunately, this wasn't the way that I wanted to actually start out this brand new month of June (our actual "formal monthly greetings blog entry" for June will be written up and posted during the course of next week itself). But this definitely needed to be written up for the course of today regarding some very sad news that we've received yesterday that has in no doubt impacted the videogame music fan community at large which includes yours truly as well.

Yesterday, we have received sad news that famed videogame music composer Geoff Follin passed away and went to be with the Lord at the age of 54. As many of you might already know related to our music operations as a whole here (and/or have seen from this respective Acknowledgement list), Geoff Follin was one of the folks responsible for creating the musical scores for Spider-Man and the X-Men: Arcade's Revenge (LJN/Software Creations) as well as Plok (Tradewest/Software Creations), along with his brother Tim Follin. For my Super Nintendo music styled covers of modern Super Mario game tunes overall, the two aforementioned instrument sets from the Follins have been used many, many times because make no mistake, they were that iconic, along with their respective musical scores for them (as of the date and time of this posting: 86 times for the Spider-Man and the X-Men: Arcade's Revenge instrument set, 23 times for the Plok instrument set).

But back to the main point: the official confirmation of Geoff Follin's passing came from his brother, Tim, via a posting on Facebook (which also discloses the cause of Geoff's passing):

We'd like to take a moment to give our heartfelt condolences to all of the Follin family as well as give very sincere thanks to the late Geoff Follin himself for all the major contributions he has made to the videgoame music community at large including scoring all the Super Nintendo games that he was involved with along with his brother Tim (which included, but was not limited to the two games that we have acknowledged for these music operations as a whole here). Geoff Follin will be greatly missed by everyone, but will not be forgotten.

"Music File Statistics" Rankings Document Updated as of 5/31/2024

Posted by Merit Celaire on Friday, May 31, 2024 - 11:57 PM

Managed to see about taking care of this earlier this afternoon but only snagged the chance to give you all a heads-up about this tonight before this month of May is offiicially in the history books - the "Music File Statistics Rankings Document" was updated to reflect the recent activity that was originally announced when we implemented the game page housing the Super Nintendo music styled arrangement covers targeting the score of Princess Peach: Showtime!

Additionally, because of this, after a little over one year since writing noteworthy articles for this section of the site, the newest one has been written up and posted to also give more details about the recent update to the document and how our Super Nintendo music styled arrangement cover efforts focused on songs from the same Princess Peach: Showtime! game are already starting to make an impact and make its presence known. The newest article in question can be read here to get further details.

And that's all for now; as always, if you have any further questions for me regarding this latest announcement itself, please don't hesitate to let me know as soon as possible so I can get back to you in a timely manner after review. Take care for now, and I'll see you awesome people again in June. I'm gone.

Slight Delay on the Upcoming "Anniversary Statement Document (2024)" / Song Candidate Searching Underway Related To "Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door" (Nintendo Switch Version)

Posted by Merit Celaire on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 - 06:27 PM

Good evening, friends; snagging the chance at this time to touch bases with you faithful friends/followers of these music operations as a whole. There are two quick announcement tidbits that I need to share with you all as we're closing in on putting this month of May in the history books in just a few days from now.

(1) Slight Delay on the "Anniversary Statement" for 2024
First, I still haven't forgotten about getting to deal with writing this and crossing it off my to-do list on the planbook backend; the problem is that real life circumstances outside of these operations have been trying to wreck me like heck, and this month itself has been no different (details shall still remain undisclosed). This brings me to the announcement itself that although it pains me to even say this, but although I was hoping to have gotten this done before months end, real life circumstances and fate in general said otherwise - it has been pushed back to hopefully the course of next month's first half in June. With that said, I still have a very clear idea in terms of what needs to be shared for the upcoming document in question and hope to at least get the writing process started in the next few days. It is still also clear for my planbook that we still need to get this statement document itself out of the way before we see about planning for the upcoming "summer months period" for these music operations as a whole and what to deal with next after this is said and done. I really do apologize for the delay on this and thank you all in advance for understanding the situation. Rest assured, this is still a "high priority" for yours truly at this time before proceeding to do anything else in the upcoming "summer months" (and also before the supposedly planned "Nintendo Direct" presentation hinted at from Nintendo Japan HQ a few weeks back). Stay tuned.

(2) Song Candidate Searching Underway Related To "Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door" (Nintendo Switch Version)
As what was stated via this post a few days ago, there are hopes that during the course of the next few months we can start the process of finding song candidates targeting the Nintendo Switch version of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door to do Super Nintendo music styled arrangement candidates for. I've been getting a few leads from my sources regarding this and although I haven't made any final decisions yet on what songs to focus on first in the months to come, I can give this one hint: sounds like it's going to have me do that certain "approach" like all those Super Nintendo music styled arrangement covers that I did so far from two to three years ago involving the still super addictive score of Paper Mario: The Origami King. In the meantime, I'm now accepting song candidate suggestions from you all via this respective form in regards to what songs from the Nintendo Switch version of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door you hope will hit my planbook to do Super Nintendo music styled arrangement covers for in the months to come. Just remember to ensure that you've mentioned the Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door title itself in question 2B along with the song candidates(s) in question you're trying to send my direction (since we obviously don't have a game page for it on our site at this time).

I know that's a lot to digest in terms of this overall announcement, but yours truly is still determined to pull through, especially as we prepare to get into the "summer months period" in just a few days from now. Thanks once again for your understanding of these above mentioned situations and if you have any further questions on what has been shared here, please don't hesitate to send an email inquiry my direction. See you awesome people later.

"Princess Peach: Showtime!" Game Page Now In Action

Posted by Merit Celaire on Thursday, May 23, 2024 - 10:13 PM

And now, to those of us who are dedicated Princess Peach enthusiasts (which of course, includes yours truly) - the wait is finally over on the Super Nintendo music arrangement covers end here - because our respective game page that will house the song covers done by yours truly targeting the score of Princess Peach: Showtime! is now officially active as of tonight!

We've been painstakingly waiting this day to come for our music operations as a whole ever since the Princess Peach: Showtime! game itself hit store shelves nearly two months ago for the Nintendo Switch console system. The musical score overall from this game literally got my attention from day one (just like how word of our being able to represent Peach in this latest "lead-role territory" installment almost two decades since Super Princess Peach for the Nintendo DS got out); ever since release day, I've been finding candidate after candidate to do the Super Nintendo music styled arrangement cover process on. Tonight, we've posted our "starter batch" to get this respective page in question going; the links to these new file postings can be accessed in the below list as well:

Additionally, our respective pages under the "Suggestion Forms" section have now been updated accordingly with the newest featured game installment for our operations, so if you're one of those folks who have been keeping tabs on when more covers targeting stuff from Princess Peach: Showtime! will be shared as the months progress, please don't hesitate to let me know from the two forms. There might be more music operations "surprises" in the works involving this beloved installment, but planning details on them are still under lock and key (plus, I still have to recover from finally getting this first batch posted on the site at last). Plus, this rankings document will be taken care of during the course of next week (after I've fully regained strength from this announcement posting and the upcoming Memorial Day holiday weekend); however, I'm very sure that there are going to be some literal upsets on both the "Featured Mario Game Installments" end and the "Featured SNES Music Instrument Sets" end that definitely will be worth noting afterwards, so watch out for it.

Until then, as always, if you encounter any issues with these new file postings in question shared above, please don't hesitate to let me know as soon as possible so I can check into it in a timely fashion. See you all later.
