"Year in Review" - 2022
Posted by Merit Celaire on Thursday, January 19, 2023 - 05:29 PM
Finally snagged the chance to see about getting this article written up looking back at the activity made from the previous year. I was hoping to have done this earlier in the month, but real life issues (especially on the "family end" outside of these operations) are still a thing, especially since a little over one month ago due to the passing of a close family member in my personal network. But I'm still slowly fighting through and recovering, and haven't forgotten about these beloved music operations as a whole which I have held dear for nearly thirteen years. With that said, enough about my "personal situations", of course - let's check through the "final statistics" of the previous year, which after getting all related stuff together, the numbers show these details:
* 18 songs were covered in the previous 2022 year, which involved... * 8 featured Mario series' installments (main/spinoff/branched), as well as... * 14 featured Super Nintendo music instruments that were called on to do the song covers themselves in the previous year.
Now, like last year's "review article", it's time to announce which featured Mario series' game installment managed to get in the "winner's circle" for 2022. And although it shouldn't have been any surprise, the honors go to Super Mario Odyssey, especially in regards to this update that I posted back in late November which included five new music cover additions, including some that targeted songs from major aspects of the game. That being said, I still have to give some honorable shoutouts that looked like they were about to get that "winner's circle" title but fell a bit short including Mario Kart Tour, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, and Mario Party Superstars.
Here's the chart in question for said category as evidence on what installments were involved in the previous year including the ones just mentioned above:
Featured Game Installment |
Song Covers Done For 2022 |
Mario Kart Tour |
4 |
Mario Party Superstars |
3 |
Super Mario 3D Land |

Mario Strikers: Battle League |
1 |
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker |
2 |
Super Mario Odyssey |
5 |
Mario Golf: World Tour |

Mario Sports Superstars |

Next, we turn to listing once again what featured Super Nintendo music instrument sets were involved in those song covers in the previous year. The only thing is that sadly, there really isn't a winner because as you will see in the below chart, there are a bunch of "ties" all across the board! Granted, some still get an "honorable shoutout" for this year once again including Spider-Man and the X-Men: Arcade's Revenge, Plok, Bugs Bunny: Rabbit Rampage, and Batman Returns (SNES Version - Konami) to name a few. Once again, take a look for yourself via this provided chart:
Featured SNES Music Instrument Set |
Instrument Set Usage For 2022 |
Spider-Man and the X-Men: Arcade's Revenge |
2 |
Tiny Toon Adventures: Wacky Sports Challenge |
1 |
Bugs Bunny: Rabbit Rampage |

And with this, we officially say farewell to the 2022 year itself and can now finally prepare ourselves for what's waiting for these music operations as a whole for this brand new 2023 year. As I stated earlier in this article, I'm still in the "slow recovery mode" due to family situations from last month, but that doesn't mean I can't prepare to make plans on what should be focused down the road, especially as we see about hitting the "anniversary month" in just a little over two short weeks from now. As always, you all play a part in this via giving me song candidate suggestions via this form as well as letting me know what featured Mario game installments and involved Super Nintendo music instrumentss you all are familiar with via this form. To those who have taken the time to send submissions my way so far to help me with my plans in the coming months; thank you very much... it definitely means a lot. But for those of you who haven't, please make the time to check said suggestion form pages out and let me know what stuff you are definitely familiar with as I prepare to do new song cover stuff to share with you for this 2023 year itself. Thanks in advance as always for your support on this and I'll see you awesome people next time around. I'm out.
