Extras - Other Stuff - Music File Statistics Update (12/3/'18): "Super Mario Odyssey" Climbing Up The Charts!

Posted by Merit Celaire on Sunday, December 9, 2018 - 08:57 PM

All right, friends; finally snagged the time to get this article prepared during the course of a Sunday night. Not only that, this is our very first "comparisons article" written for our "Music File Statistics" section of our music operations' "home base website", and for good reason. And it looks like as you read further into the article, it looks like a certain installment for the Nintendo Switch console is climbing up the charts on the music arrangement file coverage end. As if that's not enough, it looks like our "featured music instrument sets" list as well is going through a bit of a shakeup! But let's not get ahead of ourselves right now. First, let me show you our first picture regarding our featured Super Mario (and branched) videogame installment rankings from that same rankings list document.

So here's the deal regarding this image above: I had a feeling that this was going to happen since a few months ago. As you can recall, on April 9th, 2018, I started posting Super Nintendo music style arrangements targeting the super addictive score of the highly acclaimed installment Super Mario Odyssey. Little did I know that this would start making my planbook receive a bit of a shakeup there, because ever since posting my SNES music style cover of the "Metro Kingdom - New Donk City (Daytime Theme)" (both "searching" and "main theme" versions), it seemed that everything else in my planbook at the time was sent to the backburner! Now with these music operations having a total of 17 music arrangement files covering the score of Super Mario Odyssey, it has taken a HUGE leap from the update before that back on October 31st (this was when I added the Luigi's Mansion installment to the list)! Since the latest additions that were posted back on December 3rd (which you can check out here if you haven't already), Super Mario Odyssey has now jumped from the tie in the #16 rank to the tie in the #7 rank! And it seems to me that what I'm hearing from you folks out there, especially on the Twitter end (and maybe Discord...?), you all are still hoping that I'll still keep Super Mario Odyssey in the "high priority" status in the months to come regarding new music covers when planned. (Yeah, I know that some of you are asking if this might even take down the Super Paper Mario installment that's held this spot for all these years that our music operations have existed. All I can say is this: God only knows. It all depends on what I've got in my planbook on the backend.)

Rankings list comparison between October 31, 2018 and December 3, 2018 involving the featured Super Nintendo music instrument sets for these operations

On the featured Super Nintendo music instrument set usage end of this list, although is isn't big news as compared to the featured Mario installment rankings list in said above paragraph, it did receive a shakeup as well when latest postings in the December 3rd update occured. Although the music instrument sets for Spider-Man and the X-Men: Arcade's Revenge and Disney's Magical Quest 1 ("The Magical Quest Starring Mickey Mouse") still hold on to their respective #1 and #2 spots there, the Plok! and Disney's Aladdin (SNES Version - Capcom) sets have worked their way up that chart, but only slightly. In the case of "Plok!", that music instrument set has nudged up from a tie in the #10 rank to a tie in the #9 rank (with Konami's "Tiny Toon Adventures: Wacky Sports Challenge" instrument set). The "Disney's Aladdin" instrument set is now tied in the #11 rank (with Konami's "The Adventures of Batman & Robin" instrument set).

I know that this may be a lot to take in for many of you, but it definitely had to be shared in regards to from what I also believe on the rankings lists here regarding what apparently is "well known" at this time on both the featured Mario installment end as well as the Super Nintendo music instrument set end. To make a long story short, it looks like on the Mario game installment end itself here, Super Mario Odyssey is fighting to claim the top spots that are currently being dominated by Super Paper Mario, Game & Wario, Super Mario 3D World, and even Super Mario Galaxy. Super Nintendo music instrument sets wise, this tells me that although this is a personal opinion from yours truly, I can tell which sets in question (especially regarding the musical scores from them) are apparently appreciated from Super Nintendo music style enthusiasts like myself, and the top two spots claimed by Spider-Man and the X-Men: Arcade's Revenge as well as The Magical Quest Starring Mickey Mouse are clear evidence of that. And once again, God only knows if these two installments will still continue to cling to those top spots for long as the weeks and months forge ahead (besides, as of last music update, the Spider-Man and the X-Men: Arcade's Revenge set has been used in my arrangements for these operations 62 times! And because of the Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario 3D World, and Super Mario Odyssey installments themselves, certain music arrangements that I've done using The Magical Quest Starring Mickey Mouse set have resulted in that Super Nintendo installment there on the instrument set end to still dominate at number 2 with a usage of 34 times. Even I'm amazed at this statistic myself on that said angle.

With all that said, it's time to bring this specified detailed update to a close. As always, if you have any questions about what has been explained here and/or if you needed me to clarify anything further on this article itself, please do not hesitate to send me an email inquiry about the matter, contacting me via IRC, visiting the forums, Twitter, or even our Discord portal. Take care for now, everyone; I'm out.
