Music Arrangements Outlook - Nintendo Direct (6/21/'23): "Super Mario RPG" / "Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon" / "Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: Booser Course Pass (Wave 5)" / "WarioWare: Move It!"/ "Super Mario Bros. Wonder" / Untitled Princess Peach Game

Posted by Merit Celaire on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 - 05:43 PM

Well, can you believe this, everyone - in case you weren't aware, the Nintendo company as a whole one week ago posted this latest Nintendo Direct presentation showcasing the latest announcements regarding upcoming games for the Nintendo Switch console. And of course, if you are a Mario game series follower like yours truly is, we've been hit with an onslaught of them. For this "Music Arrangement Outlook" article, we'll be focusing on five of those announcements (including one that's still "in action" at this time); once again, the question we're answering for each featured installment is what "priority statuses" will they get based on all the related media that I've gathered thus far, or if I'm going to have to respectfully pass on them for the time being. Only one way to find out for sure, so let's cut to the chase right now starting with:

So the first featured installment in the said video is Super Mario RPG - which is actually going to be an enhanced remake of the Super Nintendo game of the same name (specifically titled Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars). Here's the thing: as much as I am excited to see about finding the chance to play this game in question when I get the chance to do so (even though I've finished the original version on the SNES), attempting to do SNES music styled covers on this is an entirely different case. More specifically, I honestly don't think it would be worth my time to even see about doing this knowing that the featured musical scores for the Nintendo Switch remake are based of the SNES original installment as well (plus knowing that Yoko Shimomura is doing the musical score work for the remake too).

For the time being, this gets a respectful "PASS"; that said, it does not mean that this musical score itself overall should be ignored because for both the Super Nintendo original as well as this upcoming remake, it is without a doubt unique. Here's hoping for the best when the release day of 11/17/2023 arrives.

So another installment that was originally made for the Nintendo 3DS console is going to be getting a visual enhancement/remake that's slated for the 2024 year: Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon. So here's the thing - so far for these operations, the only installment which I've done a few Super Nintendo music styled arrangement covers of was for the original Luigi's Mansion game itself (which was mainly done for the Nintendo Gamecube console, then ported over to the Nintendo 3DS console). And as you know, after that initial installment, the developers over at Next Level Games developed both Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon as well as Luigi's Mansion 3. At this time, there haven't been any songs that have caught my attention from those said games in question and I doubt this upcoming Nintendo Switch remake of Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon will fare any differently. So this one on the music arrangement planning end also gets the respectful "PASS" from me as well.

So once again, the "Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - Booster Course Pass" happenings were shared; this time around giving an announcement for "Wave 5" of the DLC that is schedule for release for said installment. I elaborated about possible upcoming music arrangement plans regarding this angle in our annual anniversary statement almost one to two months ago, however, we've gotten news that a possible all new course is going to be added to the mix here too (which is titled "Squeaky Clean Sprint"). I'm still not sure if the featured song for said source will be a possible candidate to do the SNES music style arrangement process yet; that said, my original outlook verdict has not changed since the majority of featured courses in the BCP DLC are based on stuff that was originally featured before Mario Kart Wii / Mario Kart 7 / Mario Kart 8 / Mario Kart 8 Deluxe came around. If I ever do get to doing the process related to this angle of the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe game, it's still going to be under the status of "APPROACH WITH CAUTION".

Next on the list is another upcoming installment in the WarioWare series: WarioWare: Move It! This is the second game that's currently in development for the Nintendo Switch console following WarioWare: Get It Together! As you may recall, I have done a few Super Nintendo music styled covers regarding the WarioWare: Get It Together! installment (which can be found here); currently, there aren't any plans at this time regarding new song cover targets (especially since I still have this game in the "LOW PRIORITY" status). In the case of WarioWare: Move It! from the media that I've gathered, I doubt that when the game reaches the release week on 11/3/2023 will have me give a higher "priority status" as compared to WarioWare: Get It Together! That means that as far as my planbook is concerned, the upcoming WarioWare: Move It! installment also gets a "LOW PRIORITY".

Super Mario Bros. Wonder was the final featured Mario series related installment announcement for said Nintendo Direct presentation last week and based on the media I've gathered and some songs I've heard via this video, it seems to be taking clues from the previous New Super Mario Bros. Wii / New Super Mario Bros. U / New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe installments while adding a bunch of new twists. This upcoming installment has a planned release date for 10/20/2023 so I'll be looking for more info and/or media to surface giving us more details on what this game in question could be all about. As for the music arrangement planbook regarding songs from this game when the release week hits, although I'm looking forward to hearing what additional songs have been written, the good news is that the "priority status" is a little better as compared to the previous games shared above; so far, Super Mario Bros. Wonder is currently under a "MEDIUM PRIORITY" status.

Last, but not least, and especially before I see about ending this "Music Arrangements Outlook" article itself - although yours truly is trying his best to keep composure, you all are aware that during the course of the 2024 year, there is currently another Mario series' installment in development for the Nintendo Switch console, and it's got us Mario series' female character enthusiasts in our sights - more specificially, those of us who are dedicated fans of our Princess Peach herself.

So far, we were only given a teaser on what's being planned on this latest outing featuring Peach in lead role territory; I'm sure that I'm not the only one patiently waiting for more information to surface in the months to come on what this installment in question could be all about and what the objective is. That said, regarding the "music arrangement planbook" side of things, it's still not the time to give an actual "priority status" on doing Super Nintendo music styled arrangement stuff here; regardless, it's being slammed with a "PREPARE ACCORDINGLY" status instead. However, I'm very sure that as more information surfaces in due time (including, but not limited to a future Nintendo Direct presentation or a gameplay overview video), we'll have a much better pathway to declaring that "priority status".

So to review in regards to this outlook article: we have one installment that got the "LOW PRIORITY" status, one in the "MEDIUM PRIORITY" status, two installments getting the respectful "PASS" status, one holding on to the "APPROACH WITH CAUTION" status, and one getting the "PREPARE ACCORDINGLY" status. But as stated earlier, things can change as the months forge ahead regarding "priorities", so you'll want to keep your eyes open on if my planbook might be getting some surprise priority upsets when new Nintendo Direct presentations and/or overview videos from Nintendo as a whole get posted. Not to mention that I'm still trying to clear a backlog (slowly) before all these announcements surface, so God help me to make room on my schedule to bring a majority of it down before these respective above mentioned games release in the coming months! I do appreciate your patience on this in advance, by the way.

In the meantime, if you have any further questions regarding what has been shared in this article, please don't hesitate to let me know via the main email contact form. Thanks once again for reading, and I'll see you all next time around.
