Extras - Other Stuff - Music File Statistics Article Update (2/22/'23): How 2022 Ended and How 2023 Is Beginning

Posted by Merit Celaire on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 - 06:29 PM

My gosh, everyone - has it been that long since I've written a "Music File Statistics" related article for this section of the site? Well, tonight, I've finally snagged the chance to see about taking care of this part of the planbook's backlog to share with you all how this "Music File Statistics" rankings document in question managed to finish off the 2022 year. But not only that, rumor has it that as we were starting to post our first Super Nintendo music styled covers for the 2023 year, the document has been starting to "shake up" already. First off, let's look at how the document fared prior to 2022 being placed in the history book. The below image first shows how the "featured Mario game installments" category fared.

While certain installments here were still holding on to their positions, there were some new ones added to the list (which include Mario Party Superstars and Mario Strikers: Battle League). The sad thing is that because of so many real life situations outside of these music operations literally getting in my way (which even include receiving news of the passing of a close family member of mine), not even they were able to commit a shakeup. However, two installments were definitely the "standouts" during the previous 2022 year: Super Mario Odyssey and Mario Kart Tour. God only knows in regards to if they'll continue to be the "standouts" for 2023 itself.

Next image shows how the "featured Super Nintendo music instrument sets" section managed to finish the 2022 year. While many of them were involved in the previous year (but not much) according to this page, a few were noteworthy for contributing to a few shakeups in rankings changes including: Bubsy: Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind (Accolade/Solid Software), Biker Mice from Mars (Konami), Super Castlevania IV (Konami),  and Goal! (Jaleco). The thing is that these four "standouts" still have their involvement numbers in the single digits; however, it looks like at least one of them might be reaching the "double digits" very soon; once again, it all depends on what's being planned for the remainder of this 2023 year and which songs get my attention. You'll have to wait and see how things shape up on future updates to the document itself.

And speaking of 2023 itself, it's time to switch gears to how the first updates that we've posted to these operations as a whole are already beginning to usurp both rankings categories. The above image shows the "Featured Mario Game Installments" rankings category as of 2/20/'23 - and both Mario Tennis Aces along with Mario Kart Tour are wasting no time on their end trying to get to that number one spot. As I stated in this article as well as this article, the Mario Tennis Aces rank on said document is now currently at #19 (tied with Paper Mario: Color Splash and Mario Kart Arcade GP DX) and Mario Kart Tour is currently at #16 (tied with Wario Land: Shake It!). The only question is will these said two featured Mario game installments shake up this part of the list even further as the months progress this year or will some others beat them to the punch? God only knows.

This kind of situation is the same on the "featured Super Nintendo music instrument sets" side as we start the 2023 year as well. If you take a look at the above image, you will notice that along with the first three updates that I've posted to get the new covers underway for the year, the instrument sets for SmartBall (Sony Imagesoft) and Mega Man Soccer (Capcom) are only giving teases on what's about to go down for this part of the document too. Right now, the SmartBall instrument set advanced one rank to #16 (tied with the Disney's Bonkers (Capcom/Disney) instrument set) after I posted a music cover targeting the song heard in "Piranha Plant Cove" (from Mario Kart Tour); the Mega Man Soccer instrument set is still fighting to advance after I posted a song cover targeting the music heard in Mario Tennis Aces when we have won a tennis match; at this time, it's still currently in rank #18. However, it looks like there could be a possibilty that the usage count for this set will hit the "double digits" soon (so far, it has been called on a total of nine times); the SmartBall instrument set has already reached the "double digits" (been call on for a total of ten covers) after the "Piranha Plant Cove" song from Mario Kart Tour got posted a little over one week ago. Once again, God only know what may possibly be in the planbook down the road that'll change these numbers and rankings as new Super Nintendo music styled coveres get made.

The bottom line for this entire explanation above - we've just started the 2023 year itself (as well as this music operations' 13th anniversary) and both rankings categories on this list are starting to get shaken up already. And I have no doubt that this is going to be the only time that we'll notice this happening for the 2023 year. Until then, I have to definitely end this here for the night; as always, if you have any further questions for me after reading this article itself, please don't hesitate to send an email inquiry my way. See you awesome people later.
