"Year In Review" - 2021

Posted by Merit Celaire on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 - 04:18 PM

All right, awesome friends - many apologies for the long wait on this one; although we're still getting ourselves situated regarding this brand new 2022 year for these beloved music operations maintained by yours truly, we still need to take the time to look back at what was accomplished during the course of the previous 2021 year, especially in regards to music arrangement activity including what Mario game installments got involved (main, branched, and spinoff) as well as which Super Nintendo music instrument sets were called upon to do the process. Without further ado, let's crunch the main numbers - after careful review, the results state the following:

* 43 songs were covered in the previous 2021 year; amongst them, it involved...
* 9 featured Mario series' game installments (main, spinoff, and branched), as well as...
* 13 featured Super Nintendo music instrument sets that were called on to do the arrangement procedures themselves.

And now, it's also time to announce two other things in this year's "Year In Review" regarding 2021. First, it's in regards to which Mario game installment itself was involved the most for that previous year. And that "winner" goes to... Paper Mario: The Origami King (which had a total of 10 song covers added last year). Here's a corresponding chart listing what other game installments were involved in the previous year, along with how many song covers were done for each one.

Featured Game Installment
Song Covers Done For 2021
WarioWare: Smooth Moves
4
Paper Mario: The Origami King
10
Mario Kart Tour
3
Mario Kart 8 / Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

7
WarioWare: Get It Together!
5
Super Mario 3D All-Stars

Mario Golf: Super Rush
6

Finally, it's time to announce what Super Nintendo music instrument set was called on the most to do the song covers themselves. And although I'm not surprised in terms of the results being shown in the below chart, the "winner" of this category goes to the instrument set that was originally done for the Disney's Aladdin game (published/developed by Capcom and Disney). This played a literal role in my doing music arrangement covers targeting songs from Paper Mario: The Origami King and for good reason. God only knows if we'll be calling on this set even more for the 2022 year; we'll just have to wait and see.

Even though the Disney's Aladdin game's instrument set got the "winners honors" for its respective category during the 2021 year, two others deserve their honorable mentions: Spider-Man and the X-Men: Arcade's Revenge (LJN/Software Creations) and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters (Konami). These other two SNES music instrument sets were responsible for a number of great song covers last year involving stuff from Mario Kart TourWarioWare: Smooth Moves, and WarioWare: Get It Together! We shall see if these aforementioned instrument sets hold up in the "top three" positions for this year or if others will usurp this portion of the chart in due time. The corresponding chart showing all of the SNES music instrument sets which were involved last year is as shown below:

Featured SNES Music Instrument Set
Instrument Set Usage For 2021
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters
(SNES Version - Konami)

And with that, although we definitely say so long to the 2021 year with these charts (and this article itself), yours truly is definitely looking forward to getting back in the Super Nintendo music style arrangement groove for 2022. And rumor has it that as of the date and time of this posting, and if my sources aren't lying to me on the backend, we won't have to wait very long for our first song covers in this brand new year. You won't want to miss a thing, so make sure to have the front page bookmarked for your respective browser (and keep your eyes open at our Twitter PortalDiscord server, or IRC channel as well) when the announcement for the first file or files drops. Until then, see you awesome people later; I'm out.
