IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: Our Formal Statement In Regards To Recent Actions Against Videogame Music Hobbyist Communities (8/14/'19)

Posted by Merit Celaire on Wednesday, August 14, 2019 - 07:47 PM

Although the majority that is about to be shared here isn't in relation to our music operations here entirely, I had to drop what I was doing to get this article written up as soon as possible to let you all know where we stand in regards to recent news that broke on the Internet regarding certain videogame music hobbyists communities. But first, the details on what has been going down since a few days ago.

However, for this article, I will not mention the folks involved by name. But I will state that the folks involved have had a substantial amount of followers via YouTube for their respective channels there which shared music recordings from various videogames. One of those channels was one of my "sources" in terms of listening to certain songs from specified Super Mario (and branched) videogame installments to do Super Nintendo music style arrangement covers for (involving the Wii game installments all the way up to the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Switch installments for the series). The other one I've visited on occasion, but not on a frequent basis as the first.

But for both cases, the "adversarial forces" went on the attack and brought both respective YouTube channels down one to two days ago. They were hit with numerous copyright claims from respective owners of specified music that was featured on the two channels, and that prompted the YouTube administration to finally terminate their accounts. As if that wasn't tragic enough, the both unnamed accounts that were sharing this music to the rest of the videogame music hobbyist community at large have been in action on YouTube for about nine to ten years!

First of all, let me say this in terms of being a videogame music hobbyist in general: because of these two channels now being knocked out of action on YouTube, this has in no doubt left an empty void for all of us in the videogame music community at large. But we cannot give up on both sides: on one side is our passionately listening to our favorite tunes when we're not playing the games themselves, and the other is those that want to share our videogame music composing/arranging talents, myself included on the latter side.

Which brings us to this: regarding these music operations which yours truly holds near and dear for almost ten years, we are still not going anywhere. But I'm going to have to find alternate angles in order to continue knocking down my ever increasing load of targets in my music arrangement planbook, especially after I have finally resolved our external file hosting account matters before the end of this month (I am closing in on a possible candidate, but need to investigate further into it before making any final decisions).

Furthermore, I must once again state that these operations specifically target these certain categories of people: first, those who love Nintendo's Super Mario videogame series as a whole (main and branched installments, including adventure and spinoffs) and second, their wanting to hear these same tunes done in the Super Nintendo music arrangement style format. That has always been my passion since starting this thing nearly ten years ago, and there is no way that those same "adversarial forces" will bring me (and all of you supporters of this thing) down, so help me, God! And once again, I wholeheartedly thank all of you out there who have been sticking with me through thick and thin amongst all these ordeals this operation has faced. But these recent YouTube related events targeting certain videogame music hobbyists has in no doubt got everyone's attention, including mine.

In fact, and with that all said, even though it's true that the "followers" for what I'm doing may be a small number (although we still welcome more via our Twitter account, IRC channel, and the Discord Portal; I'm still hoping to get to work on getting this site's Forum Portal back in action once I get everything else sorted out... I haven't forgotten about that place, really!), this one thing is very clear... and this is not just towards us here at these music operations, but all of the videogame music hobbyist community at large: we all have now been put "on notice". "They" know that we're out there and "they" will do all means necessary to bring any videogame music fan community operation down (in which we are a part of that list, without a doubt)... especially if we are a major threat according to them. The only two questions to ask here now is not if those "big guys" will strike again to take down any videogame music fan community, but when (once again, this is if it's determined that the said community in question is a major threat to the actual music copyright owners themsevles). Although I'm still hoping that we won't run into that route there, the reality is still that IT COULD HAPPEN TO ANY OF US; we can't say that we haven't been warned. So let's continue what we're doing, but proceed with caution.

And one more thing: I'm sure that many of us will also voice our concerns to certain folks who may be responsible for certain "takedowns", but I kindly ask that we still do it in a legal and responsible matter and let's not make this said case in question stated above any worse than it actually is. But hopefully as the months forge ahead, we'll definitely get back in full enjoyment action sharing the videogame music itself that we love, including what yours truly is doing right here as we speak. Take care, friends; I'm out. Stay positive until the next time that I see you all again.
