Extras - Other Stuff - Special Tributes - In Memoriam & Thanks to the Late Satoru Iwata (1959 - 2015)
Posted by Merit Celaire on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 - 07:52 PM
NOTE: This different kind of tribute, while not in relation to our music operations here, still plays a important part in our respect for Nintendo itself as a whole. And the said late Satoru Iwata was one of those critical factors in his involvement with the Nintendo company itself in Japan. The tribute itself that I wrote was originally posted on our website three years ago (specifically on July 15, 2015, when news broke of Iwata passing away (which actually occured back in July 11, 2015) after an ongoing fight involving health issues).
The original posting itself can be read below.
Although not in relation to these operations, we are still obliged to give our proper "last respects" as well as many thanks here on the main website itself to one of the greatest contributors to the Nintendo company and the videogame industry as a whole - the late Satoru Iwata, who as we noted in the previous entry before this one, sadly passed away due to health complications on July 11, 2015. Iwata was 55 years old.
During his time at the Nintendo company overall, he was definitely a major player in shaping it to what it is today. Along with that, he also "connected" with his colleagues in the Nintendo company itself as a whole, along with reaching out to his fellow "gamers" (via Nintendo Direct presentations). Even before taking the role as Nintendo's worldwide president and CEO, he was also a well known game developer with the folks at HAL Laboratory (he also helped pioneer another major Nintendo game series franchise, the Kirby series, which I'm also a fan of, but not as much as Nintendo's Super Mario series).
As I said, yours truly is still currently in mourning knowing that we here in this community have lost a true legend in the entire videogame industry itself, and ultimately for Nintendo themselves. Once again, our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with Iwata's family and the Nintendo company as a whole as we all get through this difficult time. We're also praying that the legacy that Iwata left behind will still continue to flourish for many decades to come and keep the Nintendo company strong as well. One thing is for sure: Iwata has left behind a very high standard for the next successor as president/CEO of Nintendo Japan to fulfull when chosen in due time (Shigeru Miyamoto and Genyo Takeda are acting as interim directors in the meantime, and they both have given assurance to everyone at the Nintendo company, the investors, and the videogame industry community at large that Iwata's contributions to Nintendo itself will not be forgotten).
Rest in peace, Mr. Iwata, and many thanks towards all that you've done for us in the videogame community at large, as well as for Nintendo. May the Lord reward you substantially for all of your efforts that you've made; you have done well, sir. We salute you.
