Music Arrangements Outlook - Nintendo Direct (9/14/2023): "Mario vs. Donkey Kong" / "Super Mario RPG" / "Princess Peach: Showtime!" / "Luigi's Mansion 2 HD" / "WarioWare: Move It!" / "Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: Booster Course Pass (Wave 6)" / "Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door"

Good afternoon, friends; yours truly here again with the latest "Music Arrangement Outlook" article focused on the recent Nintendo Direct presentation that was posted during the course of 9/14/2023. There were a bunch of Mario series related stuff (main, spinoff, and branched) that I had to carefully sort out during late last week up until the date and time of this posting and there's no mistake that there's a lot to look forward to between now and the upcoming 2024 year. But let's cut to the chase and stay on focus on the music arrangements planning for these operations and answer the question of if there have been any outlook verdict changes since we posted our previous outlook article (which targeted stuff that was announced/featured in the previous Nintendo Direct posted back on 6/21/2023). Let's not waste any more time and see where things stand regarding the installments shown in this recent Direct.
First, there was an announcement of a Nintendo Switch version in the works based on an installment originally made for the Game Boy Advance console: Mario vs. Donkey Kong. While I am definitely interested in seeing about checking out this Nintendo Switch remake, I'm still on the fence regarding if it's really worth my time and planbook efforts to do Super Nintendo music styled arrangement covers from here. I do know there were some addictive songs from this game overall itself which have been converted well from the Game Boy Advance original version; in short, this is on my radar, but currently in "LOW PRIORITY" status. But we'll see if this changes as we get closer to the 2/16/2024 release date.
Next, the Nintendo Switch version/remake of Super Mario RPG got featured again sharing new details about how the gameplay is going to work. Once again, the gameplay itself is on my radar; however, unless we encounter any new music related stuff composed for this upcoming installment (slated for release come 11/17/2023), I'm still giving this a respectful "PASS" regarding music arrangements planning here (because the musical score is still very unique and definitely based from the Super Nintendo original installment of the same name).
The third featured installment is definitely on my radar, especially since as many of you know, I am also unashamedly an enthusiast of the Mario series' female characters double time, which includes one of the "lead Mario females" - Princess Peach herself! And as we are in no doubt aware, a few months ago from the previous Nintendo Direct posting on 6/21/2023, we were hinted that a new installment having us representing Peach was in the works, but it didn't have a title for it... until now - Princess Peach: Showtime!
So here's the situation: what has been shared so far from the gameplay end definitely has my attention, for certain (and no, it's not just because of Peach being involved in lead role territory). We still have a ways to go before we reach the scheduled release date which has been slated for 3/22/2024 and I'm surely going to be keeping tabs on any further gameplay detail videos that might surface sharing more information on how this aforementioned installment has been shaping up before that day. That all said, on the music front - the stuff that I heard in the background is on my planbook's radar too, without a doubt. And although I am determined to make sure that yours truly represents Peach well on the Super Nintendo music arrangement cover end here, I still have to say that the "priority status" for the planning process for possible candidates to tackle is under a "MEDIUM TO HIGH PRIORITY". But make no mistake: you'll be hearing from me in regards to when new music covers start to get made and posted for sharing with you all related to Princess Peach: Showtime!, so stay tuned in the coming months, and especially after the release date hits for this special game for the Princess Peach (and Mario female characters) supporters.
Fourth, we were shown more stuff from the Nintendo Switch remake of an installment originally developed for the Nintendo 3DS; it was originally called Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon; but for the remake of this same game, it's simply called Luigi's Mansion 2 HD. So, this was hinted about as well in the last Nintendo Direct back on 6/21/2023; regarding my music arrangement planning status this time around, it hasn't changed - still nothing musical score wise that gets my attention here, so the priority status still stands at a respectful "PASS".
The fifth installment featured gave us more information about the latest branched installment under the WarioWare series, WarioWare: Move It! However, after carefully examining some of the musical score in the background, there are some songs that are still interesting and might get on my radar in due time as the months forge ahead after the scheduled release date of 11/3/2023, but the "priority status" has not changed since my last verdict; it still has been placed in "LOW PRIORITY" at this time.
Next on the Mario installments end, the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - Booster Course Pass got featured again showing the final wave of content planned for it (Wave 6). And once again, a certain song from it got my attention once again, even though I did a Super Nintendo music styled arrangement cover for it years ago (hint: it targets a course featured in Mario Kart Wii). However, as I said in previous posts (and even in my music operations "anniversary statement" for 2023), there have been rumors planbook wise that I still might have to prepare to approach upcoming covers from the "Booster Course Pass" content a little differently. At this time, I'm still trying to finalize a planbook strategy regarding this angle for possible upcoming covers; regardless, the outlook status here still remains at an "APPROACH WITH CAUTION".
And finally, to conclude the overall Nintendo Direct presentation itself, it was announced that a Nintendo Switch remake is currently in the works based on a previous Paper Mario installment developed for the Nintendo Gamecube console: Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. For those of us who have played the Nintendo Gamecube installment itself of this game (myself included), you can all remember how beyond addictive and unique the musical score was on all angles. And it looks like the "remakes" of it for the Nintendo Switch versions are making sure to do the original songs themselves justice, and that has my attention already to give the priority status on it a "MEDIUM PRIORITY" to find candidates for the Super Nintendo music styled arrangement process (especially after I did a bunch of covers focused on songs about one to two years ago from Paper Mario: The Origami King, which can be checked out here). That said, we still have to wait a bit longer for more information about this Nintendo Switch remake of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door to surface given the fact that it's also being planned for release during the course of next year. Yours truly will be on the lookout regarding new details on this when the time comes down the road, so stay tuned on this angle for sure.
So to review on the "priority statuses" on the featured games on this article - 1 game is in the "MEDIUM TO HIGH PRIORITY" range, one is in "MEDIUM PRIORITY", two are in "LOW PRIORITY", one is under an "APPROACH WITH CAUTION" and two have gotten the respectful "PASS". But this one thing is clear that we Mario series enthusiasts have a lot to look forward to between now and the upcoming 2024 year and I'm hoping to get back into the music arrangement groove after this so I can start planning on which candidates to focus on related to stuff from the installments which I didn't give a "PASS" on. Just be forewarned that if yours truly goes a little crazy regarding talking about and sharing music arrangement stuff targeting songs from Princess Peach: Showtime! especially after the release date arrives, you already know the reasons why on that angle. Until then, see you all later.
