Extras - Other Stuff - Special Tributes - "Super Mario 3D World - Staff Credits"

Posted by Merit Celaire on Thursday, June 28, 2018 - 02:43 PM

NOTE: This specified music arrangement "tribute" was originally posted as a blog entry on our previous site layout (from August 15, 2014); we have managed to recover the "source file" of this entry and do the necessary edits/modifications for its relaying to this current "home base website"'s blog entry system.

This certain Super Nintendo music style arrangement targeting the "staff credits" music for Super Mario 3D World (which can be checked out right here) was done using the Disney's Aladdin (SNES Version - Capcom) instrument set; it is without being conceited one of the best ones I've done so far for our music operations here. However, this was posted on a more serious note as well to pay loving tribute to the memory of the late Robin Williams, comedian extraordinare and outstanding actor who passed away on Monday, August 11, 2014

Robin Williams (1951 - 2014)

As I just mentioned, I, along with the rest of the world, witnessed the breaking tragic news on Monday night/Tuesday morning about Robin Williams' passing away (which we all should be aware of by now). Reports say that suicide was to blame for Williams' death (following his long battle with major depression). Although we can all agree that he was certainly "gone too soon", this SNES music style arrangement "tribute" that I did here targets one of the most prominent roles he did during his acting career: portraying the voice of Genie in the original Disney's Aladdin movie.

And one thing is for certain, Williams portrayed Genie in the movie well. Very well. He lent his voice acting abilities to give Genie in the original Disney's Aladdin movie itself an outstanding personality, especially on the comedy front. Not only that, but the signature song for Genie ("Friend Like Me", written by Alan Menken (music) and Howard Ashman (lyrics)) sealed everyone's respect to this character as well. And we have Williams to thank wholeheartedly for it.

This brings me to the SNES music style arrangement that I did targeting the staff credits music for Super Mario 3D World using the "Disney's Aladdin (SNES Version - Capcom)" instrument set. On Wednesday morning, as I was mowing my lawn and my neighbor's lawn, I was also thinking about Robin Williams himself and the outstanding work that he did during his comedian and acting careers (which, of course, isn't limited to the Disney's Aladdin movie). I had this SNES music arrangement in the plans even before this news broke; as I stated earlier, I wanted to hold off until I dealt with doing some more stuff targeting the Super Mario 3D World musical score. However, when I became aware that Williams passed away, let's just say that at the same time as I was mowing the lawn, my conscience was telling me that I had to drop my normal "music arrangement plans" and get this specified Super Nintendo music style arrangement out of the way. This resulted in my spending two days and three nights using ModPlug Tracker to create this specified SNES music style arrangement that you're hearing now.

For those of you who have played the Super Mario 3D World game itself, you already know that the music for the game's credits was composed in the "big band" style (and was without a doubt super epic!). As I was planning this SNES music style arrangement of it, the musical styles of the "Friend Like Me" song from the Disney's Aladdin movie and certain scores that were done in the jazz/big band style for the Super Nintendo game tie-in based on the movie (developed by Capcom) came to mind. Although this arrangement that I did still pales in comparison to the original music in the Super Mario 3D World game itself, I seriously enjoyed hearing the results after all was said and done here, and I hope you all can agree with me on this front (note there may be some differences here as compared to the original tune; but I still made sure to keep the epic spirit Super Mario 3D World's credits music itself had; and once again, it's that good).

But back to Robin Williams - after hearing news of his passing on Monday night, and as I was mowing the lawns afterward a few mornings ago, Super Mario 3D World's credits music kept pounding in my head. I knew that I had to waste no time getting this one SNES music style arrangement done and posted here as soon as possible as a heartfelt tribute from yours truly to one of the greatest actors/comedians that this world has ever known.

God's blessings to you, Robin Williams; may He reward all of your outstanding efforts. You will be truly missed.

I am already imagining the final part of Super Mario 3D World's credits music (both the original heard in the game and my SNES music style arrangement of it) as I'm looking at this picture. Truly makes sense here, because it makes me cry knowing that we've lost a "comic genius" and an acting legend.
We will never forget Robin Williams (1951 - 2014).
