Music Arrangements Outlook - Nintendo Direct (9/12/2025): "SMG + SMG 2" (NS) / "Mario Tennis Fever" (NS2) / "SMB Wonder (NS2 Edition) + Meetup in Bellabel Park" / "Yoshi and the Mysterious Book" (NS2) / "DKB: DK Island & Emerald Rush" (NS2)

Posted by Merit Celaire on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 - 11:56 PM

Good evening, friends; yours truly is here again with our latest "Music Arrangements Outlook" article which is focused on the recent news of upcoming happenings related to Nintendo's flagship Super Mario videogame series that was shown in this aforementioned Nintendo Direct presentation last Friday morning. And wouldn't you believe that it started with that said franchise in question because as we speak, the Nintendo company as a whole is going full force in giving shoutouts to the series' 40th anniversary! We'd also like to take a quick moment to give our own congrats as well to Nintendo for reaching yet another major milestone to the one crucial game that started a whole phenomenon way back on September 13, 1985 in Japan; if it wasn't for its involvement back then thanks to the geniuses at Nintendo (as well as one Shigeru Miyamoto), our Mario fan communities including this one you're viewing right now wouldn't be standing here today.

Now with that out of the way, it's time to get to this article's focus - there are very interesting installments in the works that are going to be hitting both the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 console systems in the coming months. But I know that all of you awesome people out there are asking, "What are your latest outlook verdicts for the Mario game installments that were involved in this recent Nintendo Direct presentation?" Believe me, I'm more than ready to answer that all important question, so let's get down to business sorted out by the order in which said featured games were shown.

We start with a combination of ports involving two critically acclaimed games that were originally released for the Nintendo Wii console: Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2. The upcoming compilation is planned to hit the original Nintendo Switch console early next month (more specifically, October 4, 2025). But on the Super Nintendo music styled arrangement side of things, we already have respective game pages on this site which house the covers that yours truly has done so far involving the epic scores of both installments. In case you haven't checked them out yet, head for these following pages below:

Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy 2

Here's the thing, though: this upcoming Nintendo Switch compilation (which is titled Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2) will still be on our radar just in case there are any new songs that might have been done for it when the time comes. And yes, there is a certain "song" that was heard in this aforementioned video that has my attention already, so I'm hoping that as the weeks forge ahead after the compilation's release early next month, we'll see how to approach the music cover attempts end from there. But in the meantime, check the above linked game pages for the existing Super Nintendo music styled covers that I've done so far targeting these two said games, and stay tuned for any further developments that may arise after early next month. In short, I don't have a "priority status" for this upcoming compilation, but I'm not ignoring it for my planbook either. Looking forward to this.

The next game that was featured is the upcoming Mario Tennis installment aimed for the Nintendo Switch 2 console early next year: Mario Tennis Fever. Upon checking this video itself in question out, I could already tell that on the musical score side of things, my planbook on the backend is going to have to brace itself - especially since many of you are more than aware that I've been doing many Super Nintendo music styled covers of songs from previous Mario Tennis games piror to this one (starting with Mario Tennis Open for the  Nintendo 3DS up to the currently active Mario Tennis Aces for the original Nintendo Switch console). It's still too early for me to give an official "outlook status" at this time regarding this upcoming Mario Tennis Fever installment (slated for 2/12/2026), but it is on our radar; hopefully as the month progress and we get more details on how the game itself is going to work, we can get a "priority status" on this thing for our "music arrangements planbook" itself, so stay tuned for new happenings regarding this angle as well.

So the highly acclaimed Super Mario Bros. Wonder installment from a few years back is going to be getting a "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition", along with an add-on to it called "Meetup in Bellabel Park". When viewing this related video, I can already tell that on the music side of things, we might need to get ready to target some possible candidates especially from the "Meetup in Bellabel Park" side of things. Until then, like the other two features mentioned in this article so far, it's also too early to declare a "priority status" on this side of the Super Mario Bros. Wonder installment (slated for release during the Spring 2026 season), but we do have the "Meetup in Bellabel Park" side of this game's musical score  "ON RADAR" as well. In the meantime, if you haven't had a chance to check out the Super Nintendo music styled arragnement covers done so far focused on the main side of Super Mario Bros. Wonder musical score wise, you can access the respective page by going here.

This next featured game is the latest one to have Yoshi being the focus once again, but for the Nintendo Switch 2 console this time around. According to this video, and from the visuals that I've seen from it, the overall setup is unique on all angles as well as the musical score for it. Even the title for this upcoming game is very unique as well: "Yoshi and the Mysterious Book". Details are still very early, and I'm not ready to give a priority status on this game either on the musical score front answering the question on if there are candidates to be found for the Super Nintendo music arrangement cover process after the game's planned release (also slated for the Spring 2026 season). It's best to wait for more information to surface on this upcoming installment before I make any major planning decisions on this prior to when they announce an actual release date for the said Spring 2026 period.

And finally, although this was outside the "Super Mario Bros. 40th Anniversary" angle of the Nintendo Direct presentation, it was announced that the critically acclaimed Donkey Kong Bananza game is getting a paid DLC attachment to it titled: "Donkey Kong Bananza: DK Island & Emerald Rush". So after seeing this video in question, the setup is also interesting as well as the respective musical score, just like the base game itself. But I'd need to investigate it further to see if there are Super Nintendo music styled arrangement candidates to be found from this one. Not to mention that I'm still in the planning stages on how we plan to see about approaching the main Donkey Kong Bananza score itself as the months progress forward. In short, the plan is to first deal with possible candidates from the main Donkey Kong Bananza first before considering whether or not to do stuff related to the DLC side down the road. Will keep you all posted if anything changes here.

So to review, this batch has a total of five feature Super Mario installments with the majority of them now "ON RADAR" for finding candidates to prepare for doing upcoming Super Nintendo music styled arrangement covers for when the respective times come for them. This one thing is for sure: we hope that when we get the ball rolling in actually picking out those "candidates" in question to actually do the process itself, we'll do our part as well to represent the Super Mario game series franchise well as we also give shoutouts for its 40th anniversary milestone, as mentioned earlier. Until then, if you have any further questions for me after reading this outlook article itself, please don't hesitate to send an email inquiry my direction. See all of you awesome people later.
